Babushka Baba Yaga by Patricia Polacco

In Babushka Baba Yaga, Baba Yaga wants to be a grandmother. Baba Yaga steals some clothes from a drying rack and puts them on to make her look like a grandma. Baba Yaga goes to town and meets a lady, she asks to take her of her kid, Victor. Victor wanders near some wolfs, Baba Yaga transforms to go save Victor. Victor was scared of how she looked but when she hugged him, Victor knew that was his babushka.

In this book, I liked how Patricia portrayed Baba Yaga as a old troll like lady. The pictures themselves told a story as the word just helped describe. Patricia showed that you can't judge a person without knowing them. Even after Victor knew that his babushka was Baba Yaga he still loved her and knew that she would take care of him.

  1. Yes, to know someone you must get to know their heart. How might this story have been different if the first time Victor met Baba Yaga she was not dressed as a babushka, but rather, as herself?
