I am currently reading "The Book Thief" by Mark Zusak. It is the story of a girl growing up in Munich, Germany during the reign of Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich. The girl named Liesel is growing up with her middle class foster family under the communist government. Throughout the story she starts to steal books and learn to read. One of the most interesting aspects of the story is its narrator who is Death as a conscious entity. This story presents interesting ideas about Death and how he sees the world of humans.
I would recommend this book if you like historical fiction stories about the world wars. I would also recommend it to anyone who likes stories of children growing up in poverty.
This is a powerful book. What changes are you noticing in the characters as the story unfolds?
